B-EAGER PRACTITIONER GUIDE - Stage 1
Using the Defence & Veterans Pain Rating Scale (DVPRS) in Clinical Practice
Stage 1 Last updated: September 2026
The Practitioner Guide (Stage 1) outlines how practitioners in Bowen therapy and Oncology Massage can use the Defence & Veterans Pain Rating Scale (DVPRS) to collect information directly from patients about pain and how pain affects their daily lives.
This was the fourth B-EAGER webinar focused on introducing the B-EAGER Practitioner Guide Stage 1.
The User Guide provides an introduction and information for using the Defence and Veterans Pain Rating Scale (DVPRS) in Bowen therapy and oncology massage practice.
The webinar featured presentations from Barbara Beacham who outlined the guide’s contents and structure, Kim Ace who shared practical experiences using the DVPRS with veterans, and Professor Amy Steele who discussed future developments including infrastructure for central data collection, advanced training courses, and community of practice networks.
Participants discussed the benefits of the DVPRS tool, with Kim sharing success stories of how it helped veterans articulate their pain levels and reduce stress, while Barbara explained the guide’s 13 sections covering implementation, scoring, record keeping, and best practices.
Professor Steele announced plans for developing QR code-based data collection systems, micro-credential short courses on advanced PROMs usage and case study writing, and community networks for practitioners to share experiences and challenges.
